For ten years, I photographed Paris, its concrete slabs and its nooks and crannies, before leaving Paris and disappearing from the world of photography and from the city itself for twenty years. On my return in 2025, faced with the city’s renewed presence, I picked up the camera as if I’d never put it down, and I finally understood what I was photographing: the city as a total infrastructure, and the little space it leaves for the individual. Bodies are absorbed, reduced, almost erased within it.
This project documents a disappearance: that of the human scale.
I photograph the individual’s position within the city’s structures and their gradual disappearance within them. Human figures are tiny, the architecture is dominant, the spaces are geometric, sometimes enclosed, often illegible. Individuals do not control the space; they are carried along by it, channelled, absorbed. The city did not anticipate them: it made them superfluous.
This disappearance takes several forms in this work: ranging from absorption, wandering, confinement, invisibility and hybrid zones…
How does one exist in a space that organises everything except the human presence?

Pendant dix ans, j'ai photographié Paris, ses dalles et ses interstices, avant de quitter Paris et de disparaître de la photographie et du territoire pendant vingt ans. À mon retour en 2025, face à la présence renouvelée de la ville, j'ai repris l'appareil comme si je ne l'avais jamais posé, et j'ai enfin compris ce que je photographiais : la ville comme infrastructure totale, et le peu de place qu'elle laisse à l'individu. Les corps y sont absorbés, réduits, presque effacés.
Ce projet documente une disparition : celle de l'échelle humaine.
Je photographie la position de l'individu dans les structures de la ville et sa disparition progressive dans celles-ci. Les figures humaines sont minuscules, l'architecture est dominante, les espaces sont géométriques, parfois fermés, souvent illisibles. Les individus ne contrôlent pas l'espace, ils sont portés par lui, canalisés, absorbés. La ville ne les a pas prévus ; elle les a rendus superflus.
La disparition prend plusieurs formes dans ce travail : entre absorbtion, errance, enfermement, invisibilité et zones hybrides…
Comment existe-t-on dans un espace qui organise tout sauf la présence humaine ?

After La Disparition, which questions the city through the lens of its infrastructure and the gradual erasure of the individual within it, Résidus shifts the focus to that which resists.
Paris, I had to learn it. Maybe that's why I'm drawn to its passageways, its thresholds, the doors left open, the hidden faces, those spaces that escape the collective imagination. It was from this drift* that the series was born.
These photographs record forms of persistence: traces of use, faint signs, objects and devices that persist even though their presence no longer seems justified. They record states rather than places: waiting, abandonment, survival, erasure.
Spaces that still carry the imprint of a use now gone, secondary architectures grafted onto the official architecture without belonging to it. Persistence has won out over disappearance, for now.

Après La Disparition, qui interroge la ville à l'échelle de ses infrastructures et l'effacement progressif de l'individu dans celles-ci, Résidus déplace le regard vers ce qui résiste.
Paris, j'ai dû l'apprendre. Peut-être est-ce pour cela que je suis attiré par ses passages, ses seuils, les portes restées ouvertes, les faces cachées, ces espaces qui échappent à l'imaginaire collectif. C'est de cette dérive que la série est née.
Ces photographies enregistrent des formes de persistance : traces d'usage, signes faibles, objets et dispositifs qui persistent sans que leur présence semble encore justifiée. Elles enregistrent moins des lieux que des états : attente, abandon, survivance, effacement.
Des espaces qui portent encore l'empreinte d'un usage disparu, des architectures secondaires qui se greffent sur l'architecture officielle sans en faire partie. La persistance l'a emporté sur la disparition, provisoirement.
